What Will I Study?

Infection prevention and control has become an increasingly important factor in the provision of care for vulnerable individuals. National media has highlighted the effects of substandard provision in some areas of the health and care services, and the need for more efficient prevention and control of infection.

The Level 2 Award in the Prevention and Control of infection has been developed in order to provide you with an understanding of the principles of infection prevention and control as well as the causes of infection and ways of preventing and controlling the spread of infection.

While studying you will learn about the different legislations and policies in England regarding infection prevention and control.

You will develop an understanding on the effective methods of cleaning, decontamination and waste management within the health and social care setting.

During your course, you will gain an increased understanding on the causes of infection, how they are spread and the conditions they thrive in so that you can do your part in ensuring Infection is not spread within the work place.

What Modules Are Covered

In order to achieve the EDEXCEL BTEC Level 2 Award in the Prevention and Control of Infection, you will be expected to complete three mandatory units and they are;

Unit 1- The principles of infection prevention and control

Unit 2- Causes and spread of infection

Unit 3- Cleaning, decontamination and waste management.

How Will I Be Assessed?

This qualification is assessed through written assignments, workbook activities and quizzes. This will be used to assess both your knowledge and competence. All assignments and workbook activities must be completed to a satisfactory level to gain this qualification.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

You do not need prior experience or previous experience to undertake this qualification. You will require general communication skills in order to complete the assessment requirements.

Progression Routes

Upon completion of the course you can progress to a Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 or 3.
